Firenze

We could write a whole book about Florence, but here are some of the most important things to know.

Florence is the capital city of the region of Tuscany and is considered by many academics to have been the birthplace of the Renaissance (and Antonella ;) ), becoming a major artistic, cultural, commercial, political, economic and financial center. The Florentine dialect forms the base of the standard Italian and it became the language of culture throughout Italy due to the prestige of the masterpieces by Dante Alighieri, Petrarca, Boccaccio, Machiavelli.

Florence has it all - from food and wine to the most epic attractions. Here are some of the main things to visit:

  • Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore or Duomo

  • Palazzo Vecchio

  • Piazzale Michelangelo

  • The Uffizi

  • Galleria Dell’Accademia

  • Cappelle Medicee

  • Giardino di Boboli

  • Oltr’Arno - The other side of the river Arno is usually less busy and just as beautiful - Palazzo Pitti, piazza del Carmine, Piazza Santo Spirito.

Here are some of the most beautiful places to visit in Chianti:

  • Montefioralle

  • Panzano in Chianti

  • Volpaia

  • Castellina in Chianti

Wine & Food

Tuscany is one of Italy’s most well-known wine and food regions, and deservedly so: Chianti and its surrounding appellations (Ruffino, Colli Senesi, Colli Aretini, and more), Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are all found here. The rolling hills of the region, the vines that blanket them, and the elementally transcendent, famously hearty food (bistecca alla Fiorentina! Ragù di cinghiale!) have become culinary calling cards around the world.

We listed a few of our favourite places here below and we recommend to check them out if you have the time:
